Philip Hicks (1812-1883) was born in Inwardleigh, Devon England and is the son of William Hicks & Elizabeth Tucker Hicks of Devon, England. He had five wives and at least seven children and immigrated to the US (via Canada) in 1849. He actually died 8/27/1883 in Coffeyville, Montgomery, Kansas where he lived with his 5th wife Mary Ellacott Lavis Hicks (they married in Chicago in 1880). He was a well know wagon maker in Chicago-a business continued by his son, John Jury Hicks.

He has two tombstones-this one in Rose Hill Cemetery in Chicago and one in Coffeyville (See FindAGrave #34962172) which is where Mary was buried but it appears that Philip is listed as a Memorial and he was re-interned by some of his children and actually buried in Rose Hill Cemetery where one of his sons (John Jury Hicks) and at least one or two of his wives were also buried.

This date of birth is correct, the FindAGrave in Kansas shows it as 1810 based on an obituary listing his age as 73 (rather than 75)
