Pioneer of Sierras Claimed by Death

John L Brinkman who settled in Dutch Flat 64 years ago crosses the great divide.

John Ludke Brinkman a pioneer of the Sierras died here last night at the age of 80 years at his residence 212 West Commerical Row.

Brinkman was born in Hanover, Germany in 1836 and came to this country when he was 16 years old and settling first in Cincinnati where he had a sister.

Two years later he came to California where he settled in Dutch Flat, where he was engaged in business for 26 years.
In 1882 he went to the coast and lived there for a number of years going next to Nevada City, where he lived for the next 23 years.

Brinkman had been a resident of Reno since 1904.
