Michael Dean Babbitt Aug. 27, 1946 - March 16, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Michael Dean Babbitt left this life to be with the Lord on March 16, 2015. Michael was born on August 27, 1946, in Goodland, Indiana. He grew up in South Bend, Indiana, and attended Riley High School. Following his education, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served as a Corporal from March 22, 1965-March 21, 1969, and fought for his country in the Vietnam War. Michael met his wife Carolyn D. Schmitt in South Bend and married on September 3, 1975. Michael worked as a car dealer for many years and enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, horses and antique cars. Michael was a devoted and loving husband and father and had great faith in the Lord. Michael was a member of Oak Creek Community Church in Mishawaka, IN. Michael was preceded in death by his mother and father, Jim and June Babbitt, sister, Jamie (Babbitt) Light, and mother and father-in-law, Richard and Ruth Lowe. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Babbitt, children, James Schmitt and wife, Missy, grandchildren, Amber and Taylor Schmitt. Jennifer (Schmitt) Hackett and husband Richard, grandchildren, Keeli and Alec. Andrew Schmitt and wife Shelly, grandchildren, Caleb, Andrew, Allie, Tayrin, Kodie and Samantha. Sarah (Babbitt) Mc-Geeney and husband Kent, grandchildren, Devin, Isaiah and Atticus, 5 great-grandchildren, and brother, Kenny Cornelius. Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Central Church of the Nazarene, 12600 87th St., Lenexa, KS 66215.
