Daniel G. Diercks, Sr., 88, of Marinette, WI passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at the Luther Home. He was born December 15, 1926, in Marinette to Gladys (Lesage) and Chester Diercks, Sr.
Dan resided in Marinette all of his life and was a graduate of Marinette High School, Class of 1944. Dan was a veteran of World War II, serving for three years in the United States Navy.
Returning to Marinette, he married the former Jacqueline "Jackie" Haynes on February 28, 1948.
In his early years, Dan worked for Lloyd Manufacturing, Wisconsin Public Service and the Rettke Bowling Alley. In 1969, he began employment with the Postal Service, working as a Letter Carrier from the Marinette Post Office.
In retirement, Dan and Jackie enjoyed camping, traveling and attending the Kentucky Derby every year. They also spent many winters away in McAllen, Texas. Dan was an avid deer hunter and looked forward to the time he'd spend at camp every year. He was a longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church.
Dan is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jacqueline;
their children: Daniel (Debra) Diercks, Jr. of Athelstane, Wis.; Debra Davis of Marinette, WI; Mark (Teresa) Diercks of Green Bay, WI and Robert (Carin) Diercks of Alabama;
nine grandsons; three granddaughters; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie; and two brothers: Donald Diercks, Sr. and Chester Diercks, Jr.
Graveside committal services with Military Honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2015, at Forest Home Cemetery in Marinette. A visitation to celebrate Dan's life will be held from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home. A memorial service will follow at 5 p.m. with Chaplain Darrel Diers officiating.
