Max was a member of Bear Creek Springs Baptist Church. He married Ethel Mae Dell Powell August 2, 1950. He retired from the Federal Government and loved working on the farm. He was a pilot for over 50 years. He built several experimental aircraft and loved flying them and spending time with his many pilot friends. Max was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a life scout and an explorer scout master.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. He loved camping, traveling, farm work and helping others.
Max is survived by his son, Dr. Mark Calkin and his wife, Kathy, of the Woodlands, Texas; his daughter, Michelle Calkin Muncy and her husband, Larry, of Omaha, Arkansas; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a multitude of very dear friends.
Visitation was Friday, March 27, 2015, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home; and the Funeral Service was Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Bear Creek Springs Baptist Church, both in Harrison, Arkansas. Interment was Monday, March 30, 2015, at Missouri Veteran Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.
Honorary Pallbearers were Johnathan Muncy, Joshua Calkin, Samuel Calkin, Thomas Calkin, Dean Adia, Charles Gliva, Randy Muncy, Tim Davis, Dr. Steven Shrum and the staff of Cornerstone Medical Clinic.
