After over 45 days in the Atlantic Ocean, he arrived at Ellis Island from Liverpool, England aboard the Andrew Foster ship on 7 Dec 1852 when he was days from his 16th birthday. His father had arrived previous to him, his mother and his siblings. His mother, Mary Ann (Colbach/Colebeck) Golding (aka Golden), had the task of looking after her 8 children on the voyage. Sarah (20), Joseph (16), Rachel (14), William (12), Mary Ann(8), Martha Ann (6) and infant Abraham survived. Unfortunately, Eliza, aged 3, died near or at arrival in New York. The family settled in Henry County, Ohio where 2 additional children were born.
