PRINCETON - Donzie E. Kessinger, 86, of 303 Bee Street, Princeton, died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at Glenwood Retirement Village, Glenwood, near Princeton. Born Jan. 31, 1913, at Pride (Speedway), he was a son of the late Miles Angelo and Minnie J. Alvis Kessinger. He was educated in Mercer County. For more than 35 years, he had served with the Princeton Police Department, having retired as a Lieutenant with the department. He also had operated the Ray's Dry Cleaners in Princeton for more than 25 years. He was an active member of the First Christian Church on Straley Avenue in Princeton, where he was a former member of the Men’s Bible Class, had served as a deacon and on the Administrative Board.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: Bernard, Glen, Ernest and John Leslie Kessinger; and three sisters, Anna Lee Rosenbaum, Maude McKenzie and Josephine Sloan. Survivors include his wife, Glenna M. "Peggy" Caldwell Kessinger; one sister, Gladie Wiley of Radford, Va., making her home with her daughter Odell and Jack Calfee; and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Burns Wornal Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory, Athens Road, Princeton, with Rev. Gary Lyons officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Courthouse Road, Princeton. Men of the First Christian Church will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
