Lieutenant Colonel William Adams died at his home at the age of 94. He was retired from the Air Force in 1971 after 31 years of duty. He grew up on a farm. He attended Center East Country School and graduated from Grant City High School in 1938. In 1940 he enlisted in the Missouri National Guard. After one year he went into the Army Air Guard for pilot training. He graduated as Staff Sergeant Pilot in the regular Army. During Word War II. he flew many trips across the Atlantic, to North Africa, England, Middle East, and Alaska. After the War, he flew in the Berlin Airlift. He continued flying the KC-97 and the KC-135 refuelers in the Strategic Air Command of the Air Force during the Cold War. He logged in just over 10,000 miles of flight time when he retired. He lived in Leavenworth, Kansas since he retired. He was a member of the Leavenworth Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Trustee.

He was preceded in death by his parents Audra (Porter) Adams and Floyd Adams, a brother Alvin Adams, an infant sister, and his two infant children. He is survived by: His wife of 72 years, Mildred M. (Henderson) Adams of Leavenworth, Kansas, a daughter Meta Sampsel of Clarksdale, Missouri, Three Sons-Tom Adams of Houston, Texas, Rick Adams of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Terry Adams of St. Joseph, Missouri, plus 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

He had a military funeral with full military honors.
