Earle S. Ashton -- played football
Earle Swallow "Kel" Ashton, 92, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Easton and White Plains, NY, died Sunday, Sept. 5, in his home. He was a sales representative for Marsellus Casket Co. for 14 years until retiring in 1974. Before that he was employed by the former National Casket Co. for 29 years.
Born Aug. 21, 1907, in Riegelsville, he was a son of the late Walter H. Sr. and Anna A. Seiple Ashton.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
He was a member of the Englewood Episcopal Church in Englewood, Fla.
He was a 1924 graduate of Easton High School, where he was the football captain and on the track and basketball teams. He was a 1929 graduate of NYU, where he also played football.
He was a Free and Accepted Mason in Englewood, Fla. and White Plains and a past commander Post No. 135 American Legion, White Plains.
He and his wife, the former Dorothy Black, observed their 70th wedding anniversary in March.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Four brothers, Walter H., Fred L., Frank and H. Scott; and two sisters, Catherine Shillinger and Margaret Ashton, all died earlier.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton Sts., Easton. Call 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Easton Cemetery.
