Son of George Ahas Grove and Emma Danner. He married Alice (Foutch)Freiley Dec 24, 1913 in Havana, Mason Co, IL. She had a daughter by a previous marriage, Gladys Freiley, whom Orlo raised as his own. They had two sons, Edgar Laverne Grove and Harold Grove. Edgar died in infancy.

Orlo was a blacksmith. He built his home in Vermont, IL board by board, as he earned the money. Alice and Orlo remained in that home the rest of their lives.
