Ruth married Morris Franklin Mitchell on November 12, 1940 at the Methodist Church in Elida, Roosevelt County, New Mexico. The couple had two children: Mary and Richard.
Ruth graduated from the University of Arkansas. She attended Eastern New Mexico University at Portales, NM, where she taught school for a number of years. A member of a pioneer family, she and her husband, Morris, operated a ranch southeast of Kenna near the original Carmichael homestead.
