Dorothy Ruth White-Acton was born April 5, 1912, and passed away Nov. 18, 2003. During World War II, she worked a security job for the government in St. Louis. In 1948, she graduated from Southwest Missouri State. Mrs. White-Acton was a teacher in the Greene County school district including Grandview, and taught third grade in Licking, Strafford, Willard, Neosho and Springfield. She taught for 35 years. She was a member of the Mo. State Teachers Association, Mo. Retired Teachers Association state and local chapters, and Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority. She was a lifelong member of North National Church of Christ. Dorothy was married to Oscar S. Acton in 1958. He preceded her in death in 1969. Her parents, James Malcomb White and Mattie May Pamplin White, and three brothers, Kenneth, Ralph and Sanford, also preceded her in death. Surviving are her nieces, Catherine Ardella White and Phyllis Kimes of California, and Martha Higgins of Tennessee; a nephew, Garry White of California; several great-nieces, great-nephews, stepchildren and step-grandchildren. Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Greenlawn Funeral Home North with the Revs. Dennis Smith and Bill McFarland officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Park Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to services in the funeral home.
