Mary Elizabeth Holt (Mary D), 58, of Salem, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. She was born on March 24, 1957 in Washington DC to the late Carter Ira and Mary Hope Vaught. Mary was someone that had never met a stranger and was certainly a selfless person, always thinking of others above herself. He enjoyed walking and was faithful for walking 5 miles a day in Salem, making personal time with the Lord. She enjoyed cooking and cleanliness was always part of her character. She had previously been employed with South Star Corporation as a trainer and certainly enjoyed her time there. Above all, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to everyone she knew! In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her son, Tony Dooley, Jr. Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her husband of 31 years, Emmette Ray Holt; daughter, Kimberly D. Holt; son-in-law, Brandon Kelly; grandson, Preston Kelly; step-children, Brenda Lee Camp, Emmette Ray Holt, II, and Louella K. Holt; step-grandchildren, Cheyanne Fisher and Cody Fisher; brother, Billy Vaught; sisters, Marilyn Shockley and husband, Don, and Edna Dooley; special niece, Ashley Shwallenberg; numerous other nieces and a nephew also survive. The family will receive friends from 12 until 2 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son funeral home on Friday, March 27, 2015. Services will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The family wishes to thank Darlene Johnson for her faithful friendship and Christian love over the years; as well as her sisters-in-law for being more like sisters over the years.
