Clara was born April 12, 1927, in Malvern, Arkansas, to the late Charles and Katie Poole and passed away peacefully on March 18, 2015, in Tyler.
She moved to Brinkley, Arkansas, at an early age and lived there until her later years. She was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell before opening her own kindergarten business. Her dedication to children was evident through her leadership in Girls Auxiliary, Sunday school, PTA, Girl Scouts and the church library. Later on, she served as the county Red Cross blood chair for many years. Her hometown honored her by naming her Brinkley Woman of the Year in recognition of her lifelong volunteerism. Throughout her life, she was involved in local Baptist churches. Most recently, she was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Woodie Martell Rose.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn Dunavant Walker and husband Ed, of Tyler, Carol Scott and husband Larry, of Tyler; grandchildren, Carrie Bass and husband Kent, of Ben Wheeler, Jonathan Scott, of Austin; and great-grandchildren, Austin Scott and Hayley Bass, both of Ben Wheeler.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at the funeral home.
