Wife of Carl W. Schulz

Betty J. Schulz, 87, Altoona, passed away Wednesday at UPMC Altoona surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Hollidaysburg, daughter of the late Frank and Edna Louise (Worley) Bender. She was twice married, first to Richard C. Carles, then to Carl Schulz, both of whom preceded her in death.

Surviving are her "Best Friend" and daughter, Becky (Carles) Saller, and her "Favorite" son-in-law, Beau Saller, with whom she resided for the past 14 years. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Melissa, who was always her "Sunshine." Melissa and her fiance, Josh, blessed her with a great-grandson, Bradley Ryan, who was the joy of her life.

Betty is also survived by her twin sister, Martha Leskowitz of Altoona, with whom she shared a close bond throughout their lives. They were always known as the "Bender Twins." She had many nieces and nephews and her "special" family in California. She also leaves her little dog, Dixie, who is lost without her.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Bender in California; and a sister, Irene Campbell of Altoona.

Betty retired from the Altoona Area School District in 1989 after many years at Keith Junior High School. She continued to work in the area, most recently as a greeter at Wal-mart for 10 years, and had continued to work there part time. She loved her job because she loved people and people loved her. She always had a smile and kind words for a friend or a stranger.

Betty was known for her butterflies. Many she wore were gifts from customers and co-workers. She enjoyed taking care of her family and went everywhere with them. She had a special love for life and was always there for anyone who needed her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her and will especially be missed by her family, who loved her more than words can say.

Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2015, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 30, 2015, in Stevens Memorial Chapel, officiated by Chaplain Barbara Rossi. Interment will be at Carson Valley Cemetery
