Ellen Jane was the daughter of Richard Turner who at the time of her birth worked as a cotton spinner (he later became a police sergeant) and his wife Alice. She was born in Walton le Dale and lived in Turton (now known as Chapeltown) and Horwich near Bolton before the family ended up in Manchester settling there after her father eventually retired from the police force. She married Edward in 1868 at Manchester Cathedral. Prior to her marriage she worked in a cotton mill and later worked as a shop keeper helping her husband run the family’s beer selling shop.
Ellen Jane was buried on 3rd January 1901 she was 54 years old.
