Married Richard "Dick" Young on March 15, 1952.
Obituary published in Des Moines Register on 3/15/2015.
----------
Surrounded by her family, Marilyn Young, 84, went to go be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Marilyn was born in Des Moines on June 26h 1930 to Harold and Gwen Davis.
Marilyn grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Roosevelt High School, where she met the love her life in 1946. She married her high school sweet heart, Richard "Dick" Young on March 15, 1952. She graduated Drake University, earning a bachelors degree in Education, and was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She taught Kindergarten before moving to Atlantic, IA. Marilyn and Dick remained in Des Moines for 20 years and had their two sons, Rick and Dan. They then moved to Lincoln, NE in 1978, and eventually back to West Des Moines in 1990.
Many lunches were spent with her social group, Tri T. (Don't ask what it stands for because she always said she was sworn to secrecy.) Marilyn was also active in her church, Westminster Presbyterian, helping prepare meals for the homeless, and participating in many other church groups. You could also find Marilyn spending time socializing with friends, shopping, being pampered, enjoying her family, and showing off pictures of her great-grandson.
A loving mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and aunt, Marilyn is survived by her husband Richard Young, children Rick and Daniel Young, grandchildren Weston, Aaron, and Joshua Young, great-grandchild Caleb Young, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sister (Shirley). According to her wishes, cremation has occurred and a memorial service will be held on March 21st, 10:00am at Westminster Presbyterian Church. 4114 Allison Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50310. Memorial contributions can be made to Westminster Presbyterian.
