HOUK -- Howard Franklin Houk, 93, of Albuquerque died on October 24, 2007. His loving wife of 60 years, Merle, preceded him in death in 2004 and his son, Delbert, in 1963.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Field; two granddaughters, Jessica and Olivia Field of London, England; a great-nephew, Bob Hall of Albuquerque; and numerous other family members.

Howard was a well known attorney in New Mexico for over 50 years. He was First Assistant Attorney General for New Mexico in 1941 and United States Attorney from 1942-1946. He served as Attorney for the New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners and the New Mexico Medical Society for over 25 years. He also served on the New Mexico Selective Service Appeals Board, the State Parole Board and was President of The State Bar from 1954-1955.

He enjoyed reciting poetry, cooking, entertaining his many friends, and walking with his dogs. He always donned a beautiful Stetson hat.

A family interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Howard's life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Howard's name to St. Mark's on the Mesa Church, 431 Richmond Place NE, Albuquerque, NM 87106, 262-2484, for The Blessed Mustard Seed Babies' Home in Uganda.
