A native of Beverly, Mr. Andersen graduated from Tufts College in 1948 and received a master's degree in education from Boston College. He served in the Navy during World War II.
In the three years since his retirement as head of the Swampscott High math department, Mr. Andersen taught at Endicott Junior College in Beverly.
He leaves his wife, Caroline T. (Campbell); two daughters, Julie Marie of Boston and Laurie E. of Salem; a son, Timothy V. of Newburyport; his mother, Rhea (Jerry) Andersen of Beverly; and three grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be said at 9 a.m. today in the Church of St. Paul, Hamilton.
