WEST BROOKFIELD Nicholas C. Foty, 82, of West Brookfield, died Tuesday, May 23, in Blaire House of Worcester after a brave struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born in Worcester, son of Costa and Anastasia (Kita) Foty. He leaves his wife of 49 happy years together, Geraldine (Rice) Foty. He is also survived by a daughter, Caroline Foty of Baltimore, MD; a son, Daniel Foty of Fletcher, VT; an adopted Vietnamese granddaughter, Emily Foty of Baltimore, MD; a sister, Helen Theodores of Dudley; a sister-in-law, Marie Foty of Worcester; a brother-in-law, Edward Rice and his wife Janice of Aiken, SC; cousins, nieces, and nephews. His brother, John "Tex" Foty predeceased him.

Nick enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in World War II and flew 35 missions over Germany as a navigator - bombardier - radarman. At age 21, he was the lead navigator for his unit of the 8th Air Force. He graduated as an electrical engineer from Villanova University in 1949. He was accepted in the cadet training program of the Cites Service Corporation and worked as assistant district manager in Philadelphia. He was recalled to fly in the Korean Conflict where he flew 50 more missions. He received 11 medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross with 2 oak leaf clusters and the Air Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters. He worked in New York and Connecticut as a sales engineer for Square D Company. He was also part owner of The Simpson House, a restaurant in Newton, MA. He retired from business in 1969 and taught at David Prouty High School in Spencer for 15 years, helping and inspiring many students to further their education.

At his request, there are no funeral services. After cremation his remains will be returned to be mingled in the future with his wife's remains and scattered together.
