Attended Norris Square Methodist Episcopal Church, then in 1886 led a group who established a Methodist Church in Wissinoming, first holding services at Arthur's home located at at Comly and Hegerman Streets. By 1888, they had outgrown this and relocated to the Town Hall at Jackson and Vankirk Streets to worship. In 1891 they formally established a Methodist Church in Wissinoming. They purchased a lot at the corner of Comly and Jackson Streets, and the frame church was completed in 1893.
Arthur was a freemason, and member of the William Penn Harmony Lodge No. 52 located at 1 North Broad Street in Philadelphia. He was part of Melita Chapter No. 284 RAM. Member of the I.O.O.F. Mutual Friends Lodge No. 452 (in the Eleventh District) at Front and Norris Sts.
Arthur died of cerebral hemorrhage.
