Edith Maude Wood, 90, Lunenburg, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, in Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg. Born in Lunenburg, she was a daughter of the late John Edwin and Cecilia (Maxner) Oxner. She was employed at Kinley's Drug Store for many years and after leaving decided to take a business course when she accepted a position with Atlantic Bridge Company Limited and worked there many years until her retirement. She was a member of Grace Chapter 8, Order of the Eastern Star, a member of St. John's Ladies Guild, Ladies Auxiliary of Fishermen's Memorial Hospital and a very faithful choir member of St. John's Anglican Church for more than 35 years. Edith was also a member of the Bluenose Senior Citizens Club, Golden Youth Club, acting as pianist for both clubs. She was also a member of the Riverport Senior Citizens Club. She was a very loving and devoted mother, always kind and thoughtful of others. She will be greatly missed by her many friends. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by son, Cortlandt and wife Som Somsaifon, Thailand; grandson, John; and granddaughter, Sky Somsaifon. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert; daughter, Donna Judith; brother, Edwin H. Oxner; sisters, Roberta Lillian and Marion who died in infancy. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg, where funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. Irving Letto officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to St. John's Anglican Church or the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital.
