William Alexander, 82, of Camichaels, died at 1:45 am Friday, November 19,1999, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W Va. He was born January 11, 1917, in Leisenring, a son of John and Theresa Valcovic Alexander. Mrs. Alexander resided in the Carmichaels area most of his life and retired from Nemacolin Mine in 1980 after working for 46 years. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491 of Carmichaels, where he was past commander and quartermaster and the oldest living trustee. Mr. Alexander was a member of St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church of Carmichaels and Carmichaels Lions Club. On September 25, 1940, he married Mildred E Stofcheck, who survives. Also surviving are three sisters, Helen Jablonsky of Uniontown, Irene Dolfe of Masontown and Katherine Griffin of Long Island, NY; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Raymond and Joseph Alexander and a sister, Frances Alexander, who died in infancy.

Friends of William Alexander of Carmichaels, who died Friday, November 19, 1999 will be received from 7 to 9 pm Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Monday in Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J Yoskovich, funeral director, 300 South Vine Street, Route 88, Carmichales, where family and friends are asked to meet at 10 am Tuesday, November 23, in order to proceed at 11 am to St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev David E F Scharf and Rev Francis A Nazimek concelebrating. Interment will follow at Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels with full military honors accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491 and the Cumberland American Legion Post 400. A parish Rosary will be recited at 3 pm Monday in the funeral home and Carmichaels Lions Club will conduct a memorial service at 7 pm.
