Anita Arbutus Atkinson Pennington, 92, of Charleston passed away on February 6, 2015, after a long illness.
Arbutus was born February 16, 1922, in Charleston, W.Va., to the late Robert Nelson Atkinson and Hallie Veda Cummings Atkinson. She was also preceded in death by her husband Glen Pennington, sister Jean Marie Lambert, one brother David L. Atkinson. She graduated from Dunbar High School, and graduated from Morris Harvey College in 1946. She was an elementary school teacher in Kanawha County Schools for 20 years.

While working at Union Carbide she met Glen. They were married on May 31, 1947. Arbutus was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the church in various capacities, working in the Primary organization for years. She served a four-year mission with her husband in the Washington DC Temple.

She is survived by her children, sons, Glen Eugene Pennington, Jr. and his wife Diane of Charleston, WV, Eric Wayne Pennington and his wife Linda of Keansburg, NJ, Warren Lee Pennington and his wife Christy of Sissonville, WV, and Joseph Pennington and his wife Anita Ann of Charleston, WV; daughter Anita Lynne Pennington of Charleston, WV; 14 grandchildren: Kristen Pennington, Blake Pennington, Derek Pennington, Kaelyn Pennington, Celeste (Pennington) Johnson, Jennifer (Pennington)Reynolds, James Pennington, Lindsay Pennington, and Christopher Pennington, Michele Cash, Julie Cash King, Kelly Cash Waisath, Travis Sheets and Ashley Sheets, and 10 great-grandchildren, and one brother Robert Kenneth Atkinson of Sandy, Utah.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at 1pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 2007 McClure Pkwy, Charleston with Bishop John Leithead officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville. Visitation will be Monday, February 9, 2015, from 6-8pm at Wilson Funeral Home, 420 Lee St. West, Charleston. We would like to thank the caregivers, Amy, Jessica, Erica and the hospice nurse, Holly, for all their love and care they showed toward Arbutus.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Hospice Care 1606 Kanawha Blvd. West, Charleston, WV 25387.
