Gregory Baldwin Conley of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, passed Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at age 67. Greg, the twin of Gerald Nolan, was the fifth of six children born to the union of Samuel Gates Conley and Cordelia Evelyn (McCrimmon) Conley. He was born on July 12, 1947, at Southwest General Hospital in El Paso, Texas. However, this Texan grew up 25 miles north of El Paso on a farm in Vado, New Mexico, until the family relocated to Las Cruces, New Mexico, where he spent his teenage years. Then he located to Los Angeles, California.

Greg loved to work with his hands. In sports, he boxed golden gloves on the Sammy Burke traveling team, where he won New Mexico state champ for his weight. In baseball, he pitched and was an exceptional catcher (no one ever stole a base on him). In the trades, he built batteries in Los Angeles. He built transmissions for GM in Ohio. He worked in Alabama and Rhode Island shipyards as a welder on nuclear submarines and carriers. In North Carolina, he welded water towers and commercial heating and air. He received many awards for being excellent at his craft. In retirement, he tinkered with small engines and loved to send photos of projects he worked on.

Greg was married to Jean Elkins in 1971 and to this union their only child, Willa Monique, was born. Sadly they lost Jean in 1978, when Willa was 5, at which time they located to Ohio. He was proceeded in death by his father, Samuel, in 1982, his mother Cordelia, in 2011, and two older brothers John Evans in 1943 and George Harold in 2006.

Greg leaves the following family to cherish his memory, daughter Willa Monique; grandchildren, Alicia and Cameron of North Kingstown; sister Bonnie Joan Rousseau of Crystal River, Florida; brothers, James Milton of Las Cruces and Gerald Nolan (Meg) of Decatur, Illinois; two nieces, one nephew, and a host of cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held at a future date in New Mexico.
