He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County, NC; son of the late Benjamin Harrison and Goldie Spurr Brown. Benjamin retired from the US Army as a former Military Police Motor Pool Sargent. He was an active member of the V.F.W. as a flag bearer. Benjamin was the first E.M.T certified in Clay County. He was an active member of the Hayesville First United Methodist Church where he served as an usher and on the board of trustees.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Tonya Lynn Walker and one sister, Dorothy Lundvall.
He is survived by his wife, Lee Locklear Brown; one son, Ross Alfred Brown of Hayesville; five daughters, Nundulya Ballew and husband Scott of Yorktown, Virginia, Barbara Creasman of Andrews, NC, Rebecca Suzanne Pettus and husband James of Orlando, Florida, Peggy Lynn Roberson and husband Terry of Murphy, NC and Teresa Gail Roberts and husband Lloyd; two brothers, Bud Brown of Lenoir, NC and James Brown of Cleveland, Tennessee; one sister, Barbara Bracken of Hayesville, NC; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial celebration will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the Hayesville First United Methodist Church. Rev. Kirk Hatherly and Rev. Jackie Sellers will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Allison-Bristol V.F.W. Post #6812 and the Ladies Auxiliary Allison-Bristol Post #6812.
The family will receive friends from 12-1 PM, Saturday, April 4, 2015 at at Hayesville First United Methodist Church.
