Mrs. Charles C. Backus, 75, of 1130 S. 11th St., Manitowoc, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 10, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 930 a.m. Thursday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. John Kohnke will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.

Mrs. Backus, nee Irene Sydow, was born Nov. 28, 1904, at Manitowoc, daughter of the late John and Katherine Korlesky Sydow. She was married to Charles C. Backus June 23, 1904, at Milwaukee. The couple had resided at Silver Lake prior to operating a tavern-motel at Four Corners for 12 years. Mr. Backus was a member of Manitowoc Senior Citizens.

Survivors include her husband, three daughters and sons-in-law, Geraldine and Robert Reinicke and Arline and Donald Bauer of Manitowoc and Eunice and Edward Grenia of Broomfield, Colo.; three brothers, Albert and Leo Sydow of Manitowoc and Harry Sydow of Milwaukee; two sisters, Mrs. Ignatz (Frances) Michalek of Manitowoc and Mrs. Ernest (Eleanor) Bockisch of Elmhurst, Ill., 18 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A brother, Ted, and three sisters, Cecilia, Theresa and Clara preceded her in death.

Friends may call at Pfeffer Funeral Home 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, where a prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m.
