Alma Lea Morris Armstrong
1918 ~ 2015

Alma Lea Armstrong, 96, passed away on March 25, 2015, of congestive heart failure. A life-long Oregon resident, Alma was born on Nov. 11, 1918, in Juniper Flats, Ore., to Harrison Glenn Morris and Alice Beckwith Morris.

During the Depression, her father found a job with the state bridge crew and the family moved 22 times between the time she was in the first and 10th grade. The family finally settled in Elmira, Ore., where Alma graduated valedictorian of her class.

While in high school, Alma met Everett Armstrong, and they married in 1939, after she attended business school in Eugene. In 1944, Everett went into business for himself, and Alma did the books for her husband's company while she took care of their children. Together, they owned Armstrong Logging Co, Armstrong Lumber and Blue River Veneer while they lived first in Eugene and then McKenzie Bridge.

In 1961, they sold the businesses and moved to Prineville, Ore., where they bought a ranch. They stayed there a year before moving to Clackamas, Ore., where they purchased and ran a sawmill. A year later, they sold the sawmill and moved to Siletz, Ore., where they bought and ran a grocery store for four years.

In 1967, they sold the store and moved to Dexter, Ore., where she lived when her husband died in 1971. After Everett passed, Alma went to work at Oregon Cedar in Springfield, Ore., where she worked until she retired. While working at Oregon Cedar, Alma moved to Springfield, Ore., where she lived until she moved four years ago to McMinnville, Ore., where her eldest daughter lived.

Alma is survived by her daughters, Janice Heimer (Carl) of McMinnville, Ore., and Joan Hamby (Tom) of Walterville, Ore., her son, Larry Armstrong (Carolyn) of Kingman, Ariz., seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, her sister, Thelma Yarborough, and her son, Lynn Armstrong.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
