John Baptist Alexander was born on June 19, 1922 in Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee, the son of Dave Madison Alexander (1885–1949) and Fannie (Ramsey) Alexander (1878–1929).

He was educated in Rutherford county and was a graduate of Tennessee State University. He was a US Navy veteran who served during World War II.

John was married on May 25, 1950 to Willorine F Battle (1928–2015).

A member of Clark Memorial United Methodist Church and resident of Antioch, Davidson County, Tennessee, John was 92 years old when he passed away on March 31, 2015.

Survivors included his widow, two sons and a daughter-in-law, two daughters, seven grandchildren, two former sons-in-law, twelve great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law and a number of other family members and friends.

Funeral Services were held at Clark Memorial United Methodist Church, and burial was in Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
