George was one of eight children of John and Ellen Dunne.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Agnes who died in 1980.

George Dunne had a long distinguished career in public service. He began his political career before World War II. He started by working in the Kelly-Nash organization. He also worked for the Park District.
He served 42 months in the U.S. Army with nearly 2 years in the Korean War. He served in the General Assembly for 7 years. He served as committeeman of the 42nd Ward for over 43 years. He served on the Cook County Board for over 28 years and was its President for over 21 years. He was the County Democratic chairman for over 10 years. (1976-1982 and 1987-1990.
