Coy served his country during World War II and the Korean War as an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force. He retired after 20 years in the military.

He is survived by his three children; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His wife of 64 years Betty Jean Brown, daughter, Willetta Hanson, grandson Christopher Coy Howard and great-great grandson Hayden Martinez preceded him in death.
