Ku Klux Klan and other help widowed lady here Colfax Review -- June 14, 1923

Perhaps there is not another town in the country that equal the generosity of the people of Colfax when it comes to responding to the needs of sick and distressed. A glowing example of people's spirit along this line of relief work was demonstrated this week when nearly $140.00 was raised by donations from various sources and given to Mrs. Jennie Miller, a widower who had just buried her daughter and whose source of income is from family washings she is able to do. The amounts raised and the sources are as follows;

Colfax Ku Klux Klan, $30.00; employees Colfax Drain Tile co., $35.00 and a public donation of $70.00

The contributions from the Ku Klux Klan was tendered Ms. Miller Wednesday evening about nine o'clock by a stranger dressed in citizen clothes who stated that he was delivering the present as a gift from the Colfax Ku Klux Klan.

This unexpected kindness and generosity on the part of the people of Colfax and community came as a ray of sunshine through the dark clouds which is hanging over Mrs. Miller at this time and it is her desire that the Review express her sincerest thanks to the citizens of Colfax and community, the members of the Ku Klux Klan and employees of the Colfax Drain Tile company.

Ruth Katherine Bowen -- June 17, 1926 In Memorial

In loving remembrance of our dear daughter and sister Ruth K. Bowen who passed away three years ago June 9.
Off our thoughts wander to a grave so far away,
where they laid our dear one just three years ago today.
Heaven now retains our loved one; earth the lonely casket keeps
Bur the sunbeams love to linger round the grave where sister sleeps
Oft' times too we think in silence when no one doth see us weep
Many silent tears are shed while others are asleep,
If we follow Jesus footsteps what joy doth us await
When we meet on the Great morning just inside the eastern gate.
