Leila Bertler, of 2119 N. Eighth St., Manitowoc, died Thursday morning, Jan. 6, 2005, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10, 2005 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Dave Hoffman will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. The former Leila Cappaert was born Dec. 19, 1933 at Stephenson, Mich., daughter of the late Edward and Olive Steinbrecher Cappaert. She grew up in Manitowoc and was a 1951 graduate of Manitowoc's Lincoln High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1976 from Silver Lake College and taught at Mishicot High School and was a substitute teacher in the Manitowoc Public School System. On Oct. 24, 1953, she was married to Dr. Eugene F. Bertler at Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Dr. Bertler preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 1997. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Leila was also a member of Otto-Oas VFW Post #659 Of Manitowoc Ladies Auxiliary and the Manitowoc County Professional Home Economists. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law: Dr. David (Lisa) Bertler of Green Bay; Mark (Barbara) Bertler of Libertyville, Ill.; Dan (Ann) Bertler of Oregon, Wis.; three daughters and sons-in-law: Rachel (Tom) Glennon of Pewaukee; Judy (Bob) Heise of Menomonie; Ann (Dr. Nnamdi) Elleh of Cincinnati, Ohio; nine grandchildren: Eric, Kate and Anna Heise; Morgan and Matthew Bertler; Justine and Kari Bertler; Emme and Caroline Bertler; one brother and sister-in-law: Don (Karon) Cappaert of Maple Grove, Minn.; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Jean (Jack) Lally of Appleton; Donna (Rudy) Janota of Bartlett, Ill.; two brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law: Don (Betty) Bertler of Ohio; Raymond Bertler of Wisconsin; Catherine Bertler of Green Bay; Helen Bertler of Mishicot; Esther Bertler of Manitowoc; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive. Relatives and friends may call at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc on Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. and on Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 10:30 a.m. There will be a parish prayer service held on Sunday at the funeral home to end the visitation at 4 p.m. led by Sister Michael Majeskie. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.
