ALBERT CRANDALL
Daniel and Parintha Crandall came to Western Iowa in 1853 from St. Joseph, Missouri by ox team. They followed a brother, Benjamin, and his son David who had arrived a year earlier. They soon erected a log house for their home. A year later Albert H. Crandall was born, and one of the first babies born in Gallands Grove. His parents bought their homestead from the United States government for $1.25 per acre. This farm was about three miles east and six miles south of Dunlap. Albert married Lenora McConnell in 1883 and they continued to live in the log house in Gallands Grove where their four children were born: Frank, Daniel E., Margaret Claire and Lenora Charlotte. When the older son, Frank, started to school the brush and trees were so thick that his father went ahead and blazed the trees so he could find his way to and from school. Albert Crandall was constable for many years when the Grove was considered a wild and dangerous place. The "Old Place" is a dear spot to all the relatives. The little old log house was torn down in 1900. Mr. Crandall lived his entire Life on this farm and passed away at the age of 84 years. His only survivors are the two daughters, Mrs. Claire Pruss, Inman, Nebraska; and Mrs. Charlotte Hansen, Whiting, Iowa. Frank the oldest son, owned a farm in Gallands Grove and taught school for 50 years. He and his wife reared 2 nephews. He was a faithful R.L.D.S. church member. After retirement he clerked in local grocery stores.
