Maple Hill, NC – Martha Padgett, 95, went peacefully home to the arms of her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 6, 2015, with her family at her bedside.
Granny, or Gramma (as she was so affectionately called by many), loved her Lord, her family, her church and her friends dearly and, in return, was loved by all who had the pleasure of meeting her. She had such a sweet, humble, loving spirit and her smile was contagious and her deep spiritual thoughts were evident through her heartfelt Christmas poems, that she blessed us with every year. She was always surprised and humbled, yet delighted, to hear that her yearly poem was often shared in many of her family and friends’ church services.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar; parents, Russell and Ada Padgett; sisters, Gladys Padgett, Velma Padgett, Lillie Padgett and brother, Russell Padgett, Jr.
She is survived by a large and loving family to include her children, Gerald (Pat) Padgett of Hampstead, Durlin (Dot) Padgett, Minnie (Aubry) Pierce and Carl (Terri) Padgett, all of Maple Hill. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Wayne Padgett, Sheila Taylor, Lorraine Davis, Lenny Sanders, Bobby Padgett, Thomas Padgett, Brett Padgett, Kevin Padgett and additionally, 10 other grandchildren who came into her family in her later years whom she loved as her own, 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and three sisters; Elma Ottaway, Irene Melton and Ruby Foy.
Funeral services will be conducted by Elders Aubry Pierce & Stacey Pierce on Thursday, April 9th, 2015 at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at The Russell Padgett Cemetery.
