Maureen Elaine Brewer-Andrews was born in Kansas City, KS on April 28, 1942, the fourth daughter of Odias and Genevieve Brewer.

Maureen departed this life on April 1, 2015 at Overland Park Regional Hospital after a seven month illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Maureen attended the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools and graduated from Sumner High School. Shortly after, she and three friends decided to spread their wings in Los Angeles, California. She soon decided to move to San Francisco, where she met Henry Andrews. She was married to Henry in Kansas City, KS. Maureen began her career in Banking as a Teller. She began college classes at the San Francisco Jr. College to enhance her chances for upper mobility in Banking as a Teller. Her life was guided by making good choices for improving her status. She was promoted to management and became the first African American female to manage a downtown location.

Maureen always had a love for singing and was successful in auditioning for the Edwin Hawkins Choir. She enjoyed the experience that gave her the opportunity to travel the U.S. and Internationally. In 2004 she moved back to the Kansas City area and she and her sister, Donna became “roomies” again. Maureen joined Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church and shortly after, she began singing in the choir. She had a personality that earned her many friends who were drawn to her happy smile.

Maureen Elaine Brewer-Andrews is survived by one son, Damond Andrews; two grandsons, Damond Andrews, Jr. and D’Angelo Andrews; three sisters, Jacquelyn Jackson, Dorris Sides and Rev. Donna R. Roberson; one brother, Akil Abdullah; and a host of other nieces, nephews, and friends she made wherever she went.

Funeral Services for Maureen Elaine Brewer-Andrews, were held Tuesday, April 7, at The Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Interment, Mount Moriah Cemetery.
