He served in the Marines during 1929-33, and while on duty in Nicaragua he contracted malaria. After he left the service he remained ill for two years.
However, his exploits and pride in the Marines convinced his youngest brother, William, to join the Marines in World War II. William was killed in action, but earned the Congressional Medal of Honor.
A few years ago, Mr. Foster's wife, Delores, died following open heart surgery. A year ago his mother, Mrs. Alma T. Foster, died. Mr. Foster died Sunday at 54 in Metropolitan General Hospital after a courageous fight against a brain tumor complicated by lung cancer.
In his earlier days he had been a pilot. Even though seriously ill, he had more concern for his family than himself. He was a long-time resident of Garfield Heights.
He had been a former employee at Plant No. 5 of Jack & Heintz, an insurance agent for Western & Southern Life and in later years managed Lawson Stores in Garfield Heights, Mentor, and Painesville. He was a member of the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are two sons, Patrick and Michael; two daughters, Joyce and Patricia; a brother, Earl, and a sister, Mrs. Betty Bennett."
