Vince was born Nov. 27, 1919, on a farm near Elmo. He was a 1936 graduate of Hope High School. He was the firstborn son of Herman and Sarah Anderes.
Vince served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II. He spent most of his time in action in the Japanese theater, where he earned three Bronze Stars for acts of heroism.
Vince loved to farm, raising crops and livestock, spin his war stories to anyone who would listen and, most importantly, his relationship with God. Attending church together as a family was his strongest rule.
Vince was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church in Elmo, where he served in various capacities throughout his life. He fondly remembers helping to build the new church and the bell tower in his younger years.
Vince married Virginia Baier on Oct. 11, 1952. Their marriage spanned 62 years, nine children, 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Vince is survived by his wife, Virginia; children, Bill, of Elmo, Rhonda Foth, of Abilene, Greg (Sharon), of Gypsum, Diane (Rodney), of Kansas City, Yvonne (Dennis) Woodall, of Salina, Kim (Kevin) Svoboda, of Topeka, Mark (Jill), of Elmo, Mike (Lenece), of Abilene, and Lisa (Darin) Elliot, of Elmo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Sarah; brothers, Edwin and Clinton; and sister, Helen Soukup.
Mass of Christian Burial for Vince will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 13, at St. Columba Catholic Church in Elmo with concelebrants Father Mark Wesely and Father Soosai Rathinam. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, south of Elmo, with military honors. Parish rosary will be recited at 2 p.m. Sunday at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends after the rosary.
