Thomas "Dick" Cheely, 80, of Hopewell, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 29, 2008.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gideon Guy Cheely and Estelle Wray Cheely, also four sisters and three brothers. He had been a mechanic for Dunnington Motors, Strosnider Chevy and Joe Cerny's, all of Hopewell, a member of the American Legion Post 146, Hopewell Moose Lodge #1480, a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, attended Hopewell schools and he had an avid love for NASCAR sports.

He is survived by three daughters, Bonnie Campbell, Dana C. King and Rhonda Cheely, all of Hopewell; a long time companion, Corine "Connie" Curtis and family; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Ave., Hopewell, and where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, with the Rev. Scott Campbell (grandson) officiating. Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park. Condolences may be registered at www.nelsencares.com.
