Vola Green Ping, 85 years, 3 months and 15 days of age, departed this life on Wednesday, April 13th, 2005, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.
Vola was born in Alcalde, Kentucky, on December 29th, 1919, the son of George Harrison Ping and Sarah Elizabeth Prather Ping. He was a United States Army disabled World War II Veteran, of the Baptist Faith, he attended the Old Fashion Faith Missionary Baptist Church and a member of Chapter 47 of the Disabled American Veterans.
Vola was survived by three sons, Vola Ray Ping, James Gilbert Ping, and Cecil Jake Ping; one daughter, Mimey Lois (and Donald) Foster; one brother, Robert Ping; two sisters, Lovie Gossett and Ilenne Mayfield; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elizabeth Ping; his wife, Margaret Jane Russell Ping; five brothers, Frank Ping, Clarence Ping, Arthur Ping, Harrison Lee Ping and Andrew Ping; and one sister, Otha Mary Mayfield.
Visitations were held after 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15th, 2005 at the Morris and Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 16th, 2005 in the Chapel of the Morris and Hislope Funeral Home with Brother Lowell Gossett officiating.
Burial followed in the Rock Lick Cemetery in Somerset, Kentucky.
