Bishop A.O. Holmes was born on June 25, 1911 at TylerTown, Mississippi.

He established churches in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas before coming to North Little Rock in 1946. Under his leadership, First Pentecostal Church, "Buckeye" grew from a small work to a large congregation. He was the founder of Buckeye Christian School, Lakeview Children's Home, and the Christian nursing Home.

He preached the Hour of Deliverance radio broadcast for 25 years, and started a jail ministry at the Little Rock jail. Bishop Holmes was responsible for influencing many to become ministers, and many Pentecostal churches across the country can be traced back to his ministry and leadership.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes Holmes; 2 sons, Rev. Joel N. Holmes of North Little Rock and Ruebel V. Holmes of Little Rock. 4 daughters; Juanita Beall of NLR, Arlene Smith of New Orleans, Louisiana, Faith Cavin and Sharon Brewer of NLR, 2 Brothers; Louie Dillion and J. C. Dillion of Franklinton, Louisiana, 4 sisters; Ollie Brock of DeRidder, Louisiana,
Lexie Lott of Bogalusa, Louisiana, Naiomi Bryant and Alice Ball of Franklinton, Louisiana, 14 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

The Memorial Service will be held at the first Pentecostal Church, No. 152nd Place, North Little Rock, at 7:00 p.m. on April 9, 1985.
The graveside service will be at Rest Hills Cemetery, April 10th at 10:00 a.m.
