Richard Roy Boedeker, age 82, of Edwardsville, Illinois died Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at his home. Richard was a retired Physics Professor Emeritus at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. He was born April 8, 1933, in St. Louis, Missouri the son of the late Leo F. & Mayme (Schnelle) Boedeker. He married Beverly Ficke on August 12, 1961, at St. Williams Church in St. Louis. Besides his wife he is survived by a son, David Boedeker of Edwardsville, 2 daughters, Elizabeth "Betsy" Boedeker of Edwardsville, and Jenny (Dan) Adams of St. Louis; 1 granddaughter, Lauren Adams of St. Louis; a nephew Leonard (Sue) Boedeker of Torrance, CA; and a niece, Kathy (Jim) Buchholz of St. Louis. Richard was preceded in death by 1 brother, Leonard Boedeker, 2 sisters, Leona Boedeker and Virginia "Ginny" Boman, and a nephew, Charles "Chuck" Boman. Richard was a graduate of St. Louis University High School and earned his Ph.D from St. Louis University in 1959. He taught at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville from 1962-1999, during which time he was awarded the Teaching Excellence Award in 1973 and 1979. He was recognized as an Outstanding Educator of America in 1972. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2015, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edwardsville with Fr. Dan Bergbower officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Glen Carbon.
