Born in , NM on September 20, 1929, Dave was the son of the late Harry Howard and Louise Walraven Ackerson. He was a 1952 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy.
He retired from the DuPont Company in 1985 after 30 years of service. Dave had a wonderful sense of humor and many dear friends. His favorite stories were about his youth in Albuquerque; his years at the Naval Academy; great times with his grandchildren in San Antonio and on the Eastern Shore (he loved Texas and the Chesapeake); the engineering company that he founded after retirement with his son, Scott; and gatherings with his remarkable family-by-marriage, descended from John B. Harry of Tenleytown (Washington, DC).
Dave is survived by his beloved partner of sixty-two years, Frances Harry Ackerson, his daughter Margaret Geibel (Peggy), wife of Dr. Paul Geibel of San Antonio, TX; his son Scott Ackerson, husband of Elisabeth Ackerson of Easton, MD; seven cherished grandchildren, Chris, David, John, Meghan, Rebecca, Ryan and Sarah; and one great-grandchild, Sofia.
Dave was preceded in death by two sons, Mark and Woody Ackerson, and his brother, Bruce Ackerson.
A memorial service will be held at the Chapel of the United States Naval Academy on Monday, April 13, 2015 at 1:00PM. The service will be followed by a commitment ceremony at the U.S. Naval Academy Columbarium and a reception on the Academy grounds.
