FRANKLIN — Services for Billy Ray Minor, 69, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Baldwin.

Visiting hours will be observed Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Born in Jena, raised in Ferriday, and a resident of Baldwin since 1965, Mr. Minor died at 12:35 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at his residence following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Billy served as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy before joining the Louisiana State Police, where he retired as a Lieutenant with 20 years of service. He ran a successful business, Security Technology, for 20 years before retiring.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ivella (Vel) Barr; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and David Dickey of Beaverton, Ore.; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Karen of Lafayette; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Chris Covington of Gulfport, Miss.; two brothers, Neil Minor of Franklin and Gerald Minor of Baldwin; six grandchildren, Kristine and Kevin Minor, Erin, Cody, Garrett and Michelle Dickey; and faithful pet, Opie.

Mr. Minor was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Josephine.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in Mr. Minor’s name to the First United Methodist Church of Franklin and/or Hospice of Acadiana.
