Ruth E. Newhouse was born on November 12, 1893, in Waupun, Wisconsin, the daughter of W. I. and Euella (Bush) Reynolds. At age two the family moved to Pipestone where she grew up and received her education. They later moved to Alexandria. On April 5, 1918, Ruth was united in marriage to John E. Nelson of Alexandria. To this union, one daughter, Delores June, was born but died in infancy. Her husband, John, died in May 1921.
Ruth worked in Dr. P. E. Kierland's office for twenty-five years. On December 7, 1941, she was united in marriage to Carl J. Newhouse of Alexandria in Pipestone. Ruth was a long time member of the First Methodist and First Lutheran Churches and the Rebekah Lodge.
She died on October 31, 1984, at the Bethany Home at the age of 90 years. Ruth is survived by son: Julian Newhouse of Alexandria; daughter: Mrs. Jack (Myrtle) Coykendahl of Alexandria; grandsons: Paul Newhouse of Alexandria and David Coykendall of Minneapolis.
Also included in her loving family circle are two great grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband Carl; sister Mrs. Harvey (Lorena) Brackin; and brothers Lloyd, Glenn, Edwin and Sawyer Reynolds.
Funeral services were November 2, 1984 at First Lutheran Church, Alexandria, Minnesota with Rev. Owen Doely and Rev. Ron Otterson officiating. Interment was in Kinkead Cemetery, Alexandria, Minnesota. Pallbearers were Paul Newhouse, David Coykendall, Donald Lundgren, Art Tonsfeldt, Timothy Brackin and Thomas Brackin. Arrangements with Anderson Funeral Home.
