Mrs. Ellen Hall Newquist was born May 14, 1888, at Belview, Minn., the daughter of Arne and Bertha Wilken. She was baptized and confirmed and grew to womanhood in the Belview community, and when she was 21 years of age, she homesteaded in Dunn County, N.D. There she was united in marriage to Engebret H. Hall, Dec. 18, 1910. Three children were born to Mr. and mrs. Hall. In 1919, Mr. and Mrs. Hall came to Douglas county, where she has been a resident for the past 39 years. Mr. Hall passed away March 12, 1948. Later she was married to Arthur Newquist, who survives her.
Mrs. Newquist passed away Sept. 22, at the St. Luke's Nursing Home in Alexandria at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 8 days. Surviving her is her husband, Arthur Newquist; three daughters, Mrs. Meredith (Bud) Bauer of Alexandria, Mrs. Byron LaVourse of Miltona and Mrs. George Nelson of Evansville, together with eight grandchildren. Also surviving her is one brother, Stephen Loken of Granite Falls; and one sister, Mrs. Earl Fisk of Placentia, Calif. She was preceded in death by her first husband, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Sept. 26 from the Anderson Funeral Home, with Rev. Neal Pearson officiating. The pallbearers were: John Larson, Louis Larson, Lloyd Berglin, Woodrow Hjelm, Melvin Johnson and John Sunberg. Interment was made in Kinkead cemetery.
