"John H. P. Dodge, Esq., died at his home in Boston, last Saturday, February 20th, after a few days illness at the age of 56 years. Mr. Dodge was a lawyer of ample fortune which he often used in a liberal manner for the benefit of those less fortunate than himself. He was the grandson of the late Col. J. H. Prentiss by his first wife and on his mother's side a descendant of General Morris of Butternuts. Mr. Dodge was here for the last time in October when the window in Christ church, erected as a memorial of his mother, was dedicated. The remains are now in a vault in Boston but will later be brought to Cooperstown and buried beside his parents in Lakewood cemetery." [The Otsego Farmer (Cooperstown, NY), Feb. 26, 1904, p. 4]
