Willis Alva Millard, youngest of two sons of Charles & Angeline Prouty Millard, was born January 16, 1866 in Boone Co. Iowa. He died August 1, 1948 at the home of his daughter, Bessie Johnson, in Osceola after a long battle with cancer. He grew up in the Liberty & Osceola area, then attended college in Battle Creek, Michigan. He married May Eveline Sharp September 1, 1887 in Wichita, Kansas where the family remained for a few years before returning to Clarke Co. They were the parents of 6 children: Lucile, Nora, Bessie, L. Roy, Arthur, & Fern. After the family returned to Clarke Co. Willis taught school for many years. Later he worked at the brick factory near Osceola earning high praise for his molding & burning brick skills. Following that he did brick, cement, & carpentry work until old age forced him to retire. He was a lover of music & poetry, wrote many poems himself. Funeral services were held on August 5th at the Webster Funeral Home.
