Jay married Clara Tasche on July 16, 1915 at Aberdeen, Brown County, South Dakota.
He was survived four sons, Earl of Huron, South Dakota, Lester of Spokane, Washington, Merwin of Redfield, South Dakota, and Gerald "Jerry" Manley of Rapid City, one daughter, Phyllis Stemper of Mitchell, South Dakota, 19 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Jay was preceded in death by his wife, two grandchildren, three brothers and three sisters.
He was buried at Greenlawn Cemetery on October 31, 1986.
