On October 4, 1986 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Bethlehem, PA, he married Mary Jane Frommer-Butz, who survives in Porter. Also surviving are his children: John L. Butz and William Butz of Chesterton, IN; his siblings: James A. (Susan) Butz of Stroudsburg, PA and Joyce (Paul) Wascher of West Bloomfield, MI, as well as his father and mother-in-law, James and Elizabeth Frommer.
John was also preceded in death by his son, Army Spc. James A. Butz and by his sister, Jean Butz.
He was a Purdue University Graduate and worked as a steel worker for thirty-six years. John was a Gold Star Father. He loved to ride his bike on rail to trails, was an avid Rail Road fan and had a deep appreciation for music. John was a very hardworking man and above all, he loved his family and his God.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2050 W 1100 N, Chesterton, IN with Pastor Erik Grayvold officiating. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton, IN. Memorial donations may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2050 W 1100 N, Chesterton, IN 46304.
